Weezer Return With A Brand New 'Raditude'Weezer's 7th Album Looks To Be Just As Jokey As It's Cover
Following on the heels of 2008's Weezer (The Red Album), Weezer are already back with a new album.
Coming only a short 17 months after their 6th full-length (and 3rd self-titled) album, fans will soon have some more Weezer to satiate their fix. Good thing too, since the critical consensus of their last ("The Red Album") wasn't much better than the one before (2005's Make Believe)... Or even the one before that (2002's Malodroit). Return To Form?Fans and critics alike were given good reason to write Weezer off for good. Frontman and primary lyricist Rivers Cuomo seemed more invested in getting his Harvard degree and starting a family than he was in carrying on his band's legacy. It didn't help matters much when they're only stab at relevancy, the admittedly awesome video for Red Album single Pork And Beans, faded like the YouTube stars it celebrated. Yet defying all odds, the band whose every release is another stab to its fans' collective hearts, are back once again. As the cover art suggests, Weezer may be taking a more of a comical approach to their music. Some may argue that this is nothing new, but what's indisputable is how openly the band is embracing it. For example, take a look at the tracklisting: Raditude:
Deluxe Raditude:
Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, MGMT, Oh My.This is the official tracklisting as posted on the band's site, so that's no misprint; Lil Wayne will be making an appearance an a Weezer record. The song, Can't Stop Partying, can be heard as a demo on Rivers' second Home Recordings release, Weezy-less. Another odd thing: the track was co-written by Jermaine Dupri. Also making appearances as co-songwriters: Butch Walker, Tyson Ritter and Nick Wheeler of All-American Rejects, drummer Patrick Wilson, and Dr. Luke (!). Along with the regular 10 track album, there will be a number of bonus tracks, as seen above. There was a similar situation with The Red Album, and most will agree that at least a couple of those songs were of equal or higher quality than what actually made the album. Raditude has been moved from original release date October 27th to November 3rd, possibly to avoid competing with the Foo Fighters greatest hits album on the former date.
