Three Albums to Listen to in Fall 2009A Summer of Tours Leads to a Fall of Hot New Releases
From Jay-Z, Alice In Chains, to the Swellers, the Fall of 2009 is packed full of promising new albums. Suite101 tells gives three new records worth giving a closer listen
The Summer of 2009 has been a busy touring season in music with large festivals like Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and the Tour attracting millions of fans from around the world to see their favorite artists and bands. With this season rapidly drawing to a close there inevitably comes the colder months when all the wonderful outdoor festivals will close up and shelve it for another year. Fear not. There are amazing albums on the way to keep every listener warm and downloading. Suite101 focuses on five albums that are indispensable in the closing months of 2009. Jay-Z, The Blueprint 3. Release Date: September 11th It'll be the eleventh studio record for one of the greatest MC's of all time. Earlier this year, Jay-Z confirmed that he has bought out the remainder of his contract with Def Jam (where he served as President/CEO) for a reported $5 million enabling The Blueprint 3 to be released on his new Roc Nation label. This move is all in the name of the 360 deal that Jay-Z signed with Live Nation in 2008 and a business arraignment that promises to be quite profitable for both. Work began on the record in 2008 with Jay in the studio with Kanye West, and has been delayed several times. “I can honestly say, working with [Island Def Jam’s] Doug Morris and LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely. I’ve been in the family for almost my entire career,” Jay-Z told Rap Radar on May 20, 2009. “Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique ‘negotiations’ ever. Doug won the toss but, we both won in the end. I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own or are given the opportunity to own all of their music.” The Swellers, Ups and Downsizing. Release Date: September 29th Fueled By Ramen's only signing of the year is set to release their first record for them this Fall. A true punk band with roots in economically decimated Michigan, The Swellers have garnered a growing home of industry attention and a fist-pumping fan base. The album was recorded independently by the band and promises to be the most expansive to date. "It's my favorite album so far...The first single is going to be "Fire away" and it sums things up pretty good for us as a band," frontman Nick Diener told Suite101 earlier this month,"...this kind of get up and find a new life...if you've been abandoned or alienated...it can relate to anybody. We've gone though a lot of changes as a band...from lineup shifts...guys that weren't the right fit or didn't want to tour as much as we did..." The Fall will also see The Swellers hitting the road with Paramore who will be headlining in support of their same day release, Brand New Eyes. Alice In Chains, Black Gives Way To Blue. Release Date: September 29th The fourth studio release for the iconic rock band will have William DuVall (formerly of Comes With The Fall) on vocals. The album will be released through Virgin Records, the first to be put out by the band without Columbia. There have been numerous leaks regarding the album's track listing and guest appearances, one interesting name that continues to pop up is Elton John who will guest on the title track, playing piano. Many of the album's tracks will deal with the death of former singer Layne Staley, and will no doubt be the launchpad for a much anticipated tour. This is but the widow's peak of the full head of hair. The Fall's release schedule is filled with records to keep everyone entertained. 30 Seconds to Mars are reported to release their next record this Fall, as well as Built To Spill, and Painkiller Hotel.
