LIGHTS To Release Debut Album in October 2009"The Listening" Will Appear October 6th, 2009
After spending her summer on Warped Tour,Canadian Singer/Songwriter LIGHTS will release her debut album, "The Listening" on Warner Bros Records, October 6th 2009.
The Toronto singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist crafts her own brand of sparkling, otherworldly electro-pop that is, in her words (via her record label) “soft, but not pussy-soft, you know?” LIGHTS’ songs have already garnered almost 16 million plays on MySpace, and she has racked up a #1 hit on MuchMusic, inclusion in a series of Old Navy commercials, and airtime on The Hills. On the strength of her self-titled EP alone, LIGHTS won the 2009 Juno (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy Award) for New Artist of the Year, joining the ranks of Feist and Nelly Furtado. A Summer on The Warped TourDuring her stint on this summer’s Van’s Warped Tour Rolling Stone selected LIGHTS as one of four Warped Tour Buzz Bands, calling her a “retro new wave…keytar-rocking pixie.” She's proven her metal on the road as one of the only female acts in a sea of male-centric bands and handling crowds that may not be so familiar with her sound or her music. Warped has proven a very fertile proving ground for the young musician, and that experience will no doubt come in handy when she's touring to support her new album. LIGHTS’ first full collection of music, The Listening, expands on her sound, which she calls “inter-galactic electro” and describes as “simple lyrics juxtaposed with sounds harvested from the far reaches of my alternate universe.” The album includes a few songs already familiar to die-hard LIGHTS fans, as well as plenty of new material including the first single, "Saviour," a propulsive and melodic pop ditty that represents the essence of LIGHTS. With this girl, there appears to be nothing but upside. A New Video, Tour of the United StatesThe video for “Saviour” premiered on MySpace Monday, August 10th and immediately shot to the number one spot. It has remained the number one video on MySpace with 620 thousand views and counting. It's an interesting blend of animation, stop-motion, and the singer's brilliant orthodontia. In addition to her rabid online fanbase, LIGHTS has been criss-crossing the globe winning support with her live show, playing countless sold out gigs in her home country as well as numerous festival dates in the UK. This fall LIGHTS will join Keane on their Canadian dates and will be touring extensively throughout the US. Her first date with Keane will be September 9th at the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Oregon. The tour will head north straight away hitting Seattle, Washington before sweeping through her native Canada.
