Sub Pop, Apple, and Flight of the Conchords came through for fans with weekly downloads and a decent plan to allow bonus material to be purchased without preordering.

2009 is the year for Flight of the Conchords fans. There is a new tour scheduled, new episodes on HBO, weekly downloads on iTunes, and

Weekly iTunes Downloads

The songs become available on Mondays, and they stay available after that. There is no expiration date for downloading; the downloads do not have to be done on Monday or before the next release.

When the 2008 FOTC album was released, people who pre-ordered it on iTunes were able to download "Bret You've Got It Going On" as an exclusive iTunes bonus song. Now that the Sub Pop and the Conchords are releasing a single a week on iTunes, it makes fans wonder if there will be any more exclusives.

As always emails were answered quickly and graciously, and Chris from Apple said, "no matter how many songs we manage to get into the album, beyond the 10 we do week-by-week throughout the season, no one will ever have to re-purchase anything." Sub Pop echoed that, and Sam said, "I assure you, we’re hoping for bonus material too!"

Songs that have been released so far include:

  • Angels (of which an earlier version was previously released on Folk the World in 2002)
  • Sugalumps (featuring Arj Barker)
  • Hurt Feelings
  • Friends (featuring Arj Barker and

The downloads are exclusive to iTunes, but other podcatchers and Amazon's mp3 downloader can get other Flight of the Conchord songs and interviews.

Other Flight of the Conchord Downloads available on iTunes

The Flight of the Conchords albums and HBO shows are on iTunes, of course, but iTunes offers more than that, sometimes for free (and free is a good price!).

Free Downloads

Subscribing to the free HBO Flight of the Conchords podcast is the best way to get the updated new releases. Sometimes there are restrictions on which countries can download things, and dates for when downloads need to be completed.

  • Mel's Video Blog is a great find for Kristen Shaal fans. She talks about her adventures in stalking Jemaine and Bret, and is based on the weird real-life experiences they have had with obsessive fans.
  • Episode Highlights and Out-Of-Character Interviews are entertaining to watch when the series is not on. The episode highlights are basically just commercials, but the interviews are interesting and done on the set.
  • A full episode download of the first show of the second season was made available on iTunes around the time hit Funny or Die, and the video for "All the Ladies of the World" made it to iTunes in higher quality, and for free, than what appeared on Youtube.

Often NPR interviews are free for a certain time, and then when the shows are archived they are available to purchase. There are NPR interviews hosted by Terry Gross of Fresh Air from 2007 with both Jemaine Clement and Bret Mckenzie, as well as an interview with the show's co-creator, James Bobin (who appeared on Fresh Air in January 2009).
